Wheel ChoicesSome wheels may be better than others for your particular application, so we offer you a choice of wheels on many of the products we sell. Here's a quick reference to help you with your selection. The images are only intended to portray the typical appearance of each wheel type.
Mold-On Rubber wheels are best for their quiet operation, with low rolling resistance, and floor protection. The rubber is usually vulcanized to a steel core, but can also be mounted on aluminum (as shown), or plastic. Mold-On Rubber wheels have excellent weight/capacity ratios.
Pneumatic wheels are best for rough surfaces, and fragile loads. The tire is inflated with air providing a soft, cushioned ride. They are relatively light, but have greater rolling resistance, lower weight capacities, and of course, they may go flat.
Solid Rubber tires are good for "all purpose" applications. They have fairly good rolling resistance qualities, and can also be used on rugged terrain. Better quality solid rubber tires have very good weight capacities, but are also the heaviest tire of type.
Polyurethane wheels are usually found on better quality platform trucks, and pallet jacks. They have similar qualities to Mold-On Rubber with better floor protection and durability in most applications. Good quality poly wheels are strong, light weight, and resist chemicals and steam cleaning. They are usually more costly than the alternative mold-on rubber, or nylon wheels.
![]() Phenolic wheels have the greatest sheer strength, and least rolling resistance. Like polyurethane, they are resistant to chemicals, and steam cleaning. They are mainly used in heavy duty applications, but phenolic wheels are not the best choice if you desire a soft, quiet ride, or where traction and floor protection is needed.
