How do I know if my "on-line" transaction is secure? Some web-pages need to have special security measures implemented, in order to protect your personal information. For example, when it's time to "check-out" with your purchase, the web-page must be secure. As such, most web-sites use the industry standard "Secure Sockets Layer" (SSL), an encryption protocol that was developed by Netscape® to provide secure transmissions of private information over the Internet. All of the latest web-browsers support this vital function, and they are all available as "free" downloads. If you need to update your web-browser, you might try one of the following sites: Download "Firefox 1.5", from Mozilla Download "Communicator 8.0", from Netscape Download "Internet Explorer", from Microsoft
What about those fancy logo's & security symbols? Where's yours?
In recent years, many websites have deployed a variety of "security" logos & graphics that have an authoritative looking appearance. Many of the graphics are purchased from companies that sell the logo in order to give the user an impression that the page is somehow "extra secure". In truth, the page is either secure (encrypted), or it's not secure (not encrypted). Any amateur web-page author can create (or copy), and display a picture. We believe using security pictures is therefore deceptive, and relying on them is unsafe. There are only two levels of SSL encryption in use, 128 bit (very, very good), and 256 bit (even better). Our server supports 256 bit. There are other types of encryption technology, but unless you work for the military, your computer's browser probably doesn't support them (yet).
With a modern web-browser, it's easy to see if the page is secure.
Note: The images below are that of Internet Explorer. We do not mean to imply an endorsement of that product. It is simply used an example.
