In the United States, each State has their own regulations regarding the use of industrial scales for trade. Customers purchasing scales for use in applications where the weight will determine the selling price are encouraged to purchase scale systems that carry "NTEP" certification. NTEP approval is the standard sought by almost every regulatory body in the US. What is "NTEP"? The National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) is administered by The National Conference on Weights & Measures in partnership with The Office of Weights and Measures of The National Institute of Standards and Technology
The hyperlinks below point to the specific regulatory authorities that govern your local weights & measures. They should be able to assist in determining what regulations are applicable to your locality.
